Executive Certificate in Negotiation

Whether you communicate across conference tables or continents, you'll acquire the power to become more influential in an increasingly complex world.

The Executive Certificate in Negotiation is made up of three eight-week certificate courses, each building on the last in a step-by-step process. With each course you will acquire new skills you can begin applying immediately. Each eight-week course contains up to 16 hours of streaming video presentation, independent exercises and mastery exams, and will take between 25-30 hours to complete. Courses include:

In Negotiation Essentials, students build a solid understanding of competitive interaction and develop the tactics, strategies and interpersonal skills necessary for success when competing over resources, direction or ideas.

During this course, you will learn how to:

  • Identify common negotiation traps and develop key strategies to overcome these challenges
  • Use interpersonal skills to influence outcomes
  • Tap into your own leadership competencies

Advanced Negotiations
Instructors: Joseph A. Holt, JD; Charles Naquin, PhD; Gaylen D. Paulson, PhD
Advanced Negotiations aggressively builds on Negotiation Essentials, focusing on negotiating effectively in the face of complicated situations. You will learn how changes in the negotiation context impact the negotiation process and learn optimal strategies for working one-on-one, in groups and at a distance. You will also learn to work more effectively with multiple groups and across cultures.

During this course, you will learn how to:

  • Implement advanced negotiation strategies
  • Plan for and address unethical behaviors
  • Master new negotiation tools and improve leadership skills
  • Overcome challenges ranging from simple gender differences to emerging global issues

Strategies for Conflict Management
Instructors: Joseph A. Holt, JD; Gaylen D. Paulson, PhD; Peter A. DeLisle, PhD; Jerome T. Barrett, EdD
Strategies for Conflict Management focuses on the critical skills associated with handling difficult people and situations, highlighting the kinds of negotiation and influence processes that yield optimal outcomes and keep relationships intact. You’ll learn how to improve your own performance during confrontations and develop strategies to effectively manage disputes among colleagues or subordinates. In addition, you'll improve your approach to working before, during and after conflicts.

During this course, you will learn how to:

  • Mediate hotly contested issues
  • Effectively manage disputes among colleagues or subordinates
  • Improve your approach to working before, during and after conflicts
  • Respond appropriately to deadlines and ultimatums
