University Alliance Focuses on Online Education

TAMPA, Fla. -- The University Alliance, a nationwide provider of online regionally accredited bachelor's and master's degrees with more than 24,000 enrollments, now offers courses and programs via the Internet 24 hours a day, reports Steve Valley, public relations manager for Bisk Education Inc., of which the alliance is an affiliate.

Courses can be accessed using a Pentium-class personal computer and a standard Web browser, Valley says.

One of the participating schools, Saint Leo University, has one of the largest online bachelor's degree programs in the nation, with more than 14,000 enrollments. Founded in 1889 as the first Catholic college in Florida, Saint Leo is one of the largest Catholic institutions of higher education in the United States and one of the largest providers of education to the military. Saint Leo also provides degree programs as part of the Army University Access Online.

Another participant is Regis University, which offers the largest online MBA program in the nation with more than 10,000 enrollments. Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Regis is one of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the country.

Additionally, Regis University now offers the first and only accredited online MBA program developed exclusively for physicians. The Regis University MBA For Physicians Program is designed to enrich physicians' leadership skills, expand their knowledge of the latest business methods and broaden their understanding of the economic forces shaping health care today.

The online MBA program consists of 11 courses (36 credit hours) and can be completed in less than two years. The curriculum includes coverage of accounting, economics, strategic planning, finance, marketing, management and ethics. Physicians who participate in the program also earn a maximum of 121 Category 1 Continuing Medical Education credits.
