NSU Program Highlights Healthcare Law
The Nova Southeastern University Health Law Certificate is the only program of its kind to help healthcare professionals understand the complex legal environment in healthcare today in an online format, utilizing streaming video presentations.
Healthcare professionals pursuing this certificate can access leading legal experts directly from their computer desktop through an online learning environment. Students will have the tools needed to determine when to call an attorney and to protect themselves in the complex U.S. legal system as it relates to healthcare.
NSU partnered with University Alliance to organize and manage their health law certificate program. Tampa-based University Alliance works with accredited universities throughout the country to set up and manage their online programs.
“We are the marketing, technology and sales arm behind our universities’ programs,” says Julie Walbrun, MBA, BSN, RN, Senior Brand Manger-Healthcare at University Alliance. “The universities are responsible for the academic aspect.”
According to Walbrun, it helps healthcare professionals augment their job or get a promotion or change careers in health care.
“For example, a nurse moving into a risk management position-this is a good step for them to understand the regularity process,” she says. “The certificate provides healthcare professionals enough of a background in regulatory systems, health law, case studies, and statutes to know when to get an attorney involved.”
The certificate in health law is segmented in four specialized courses that are each two weeks in length. These courses provide an insight into the world of law as it relates to healthcare. The program was designed for healthcare professionals, so legal concepts are explained in practical and relevant terms. In existence since 2003, the health law program was designed for healthcare professionals seeking advancement in their respective healthcare field, as well as healthcare professionals who are concerned about today’s complex maze of legal regulations.
The program also focuses on individuals involved in the healthcare community who can benefit by immediately applying learned material to their occupation. This includes:
- Physicians
- Practice Managers
- Nurses
- Nurse Practitioners
- Clinic Mangers
- Hospital Risk/Administrative Managers
- Insurance Company Directors
- Physician Assistants
- Dentists / Oral Surgeons
- Chiropractors
“Students get online and watch streaming video,” Walbrun says. “They see the professor lecture, have access to the notes and can utilize chats and boards, all with the ease of stopping and starting at anytime.”
Classes begin on the first of each month. The eight-week course allows for fast completion. For more information about the program or to apply, visit www.nsulaw.com
